Back last April I was seeking the Lord to direct me regarding blogging. He directed.
A great many people who identify as Christian are not in the habit of conversational communion with Him. To hear some tell it, our God no longer speaks directly to His people. These people will tell you that if you are seeking to hear God speaking, you are seriously misguided and in danger of all kinds of false religion.
Such thinking is inconsistent with how our God is portrayed in Scripture. He is the God who spoke everything into being. His Son is the living Word. He spoke freely to to His prophets, apostles, faithful people, kings and leaders, enemies, and many random people. He is the God Who speaks to His children.
The incarnation of God in Christ Jesus was an event that featured the living Word on earth speaking daily to people about things mundane and things of vital importance. The promise of Jesus to His followers was that He would speak to them, disclose to them, and reveal truth to them by way of His Spirit in them. Paul prays that people would have a “Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him.” Revelation would be hard to imagine without communication
Our God has invited us into a union relationship with Himself, a “God in Christ in us” relationship that is described as one of intimacy, communion, and communication. Being “in Christ” is mentioned more than 100 times in the New Testament, so our union with Him is no minor doctrinal oddity. And as Peter described it, we are now “partakers of the divine nature.”
Some would tell us that since the Bible is available in print, God has stopped speaking to His children. Yet, it is hare to imagine the intimacy of partaking of the divine nature if there is no direct, two-way communication. If our God has stopped talking to us, there would be no need for the abiding life Jesus commanded. The notion that our God is now silent makes no sense from scripture, or from any other perspective.
Yes, our God speaks to those who will seek Him and listen for Him. I was seeking His direction regarding blogging last April. His direction was to take time off from writing for a while and to let Him take me deeper into my relationship with Him. Some eight months later, I finally sensed His direction to begin the writing again. Where the writing will go is something He has always revealed in real time, so we will see what comes of this over time.
It is good to be back and to anticipate sharing some of what the Lord has brought forth over the last eight months. Stay tuned.

I could write a small book of true stories in my life where God spoke to me, and I heard. If I were a better listener, I wonder how big that book could be?? There are no formulas, and every experience is different…what a great campfire story time in the telling of such sacred and intimate moments.

Our God is clearly an over-the-top communicator, Gary. He Who spoke the worlds into existence, Who spoke to people and prophet, apostles and average Joes, Who became human as the living Word so that the communication could become even more lively, can certainly be counted on to be conversational with His children.
I am so happy to hear that you have discover this about Him, and are in the habit of hearing. Hallelujah!
Thanks for the great comment, brother.

Tim, it’s good to have you back. Even more, to read your words that hit straight to the heart. I understand these times when Jesus needs us to stop. Or pause. This morning I listened to a 50 minute podcast, after a message about “Lukewarm Christianity.” These were warning messages. Messages about all the liturgy/traditions, “practices”, legalistic leveraging (a term I pegged just now, but I know you and other friends here understand), and “pop” psychology that are wrapped in pretty packaging (I had to use those terms?) but have nothing to do with…growing my intimacy with Christ.
Comfortable Christianity, Tim. It seems comfort is in and like you, I’m listening to what God is calling me to do–in my day-to-day, blogging, and 24/7 humanity in HIM.
As I prepare to begin my sessions “Ablaze” and seek wisdom and direction from Christ, continue collaborating with Christ-minded friends like you and Gary, and lay all that I am at the feet of Jesus, I’ll join you in prayer. May a posture of praise and words that grow our relationship in him strengthen our journeys home, my friend.
God bless you and Rascal! I pray that you both are staying warm in your area as we huddle in for a wisdom-soaked winter! Finn and I will stayed tuned in!

Thanks for the comment, Karla. Indeed, comfortable is “in.” To our harm. Lord, deliver us from the comforts we seek so we may experience the comforts you offer instead.
How was the “Ablaze” event? Let me guess…it was scorching good!

It’s my blessing, my friend. Amen ππ» Deliver us, God.
The sessions start next Tuesday and will last 6 weeks. So I subbed in a 4th grade classroom today ~ my learning never ends. It’s an opportunity to put my faith in action. We spoke about goods and services today~ behaviors were challenging and through it all, I pray the kids could feel my love, and hopeful expectations through my actions, and how blessed we are to live in the Western World. A lot of good discussion. And I can barely lift my arms now! Kids take it out of me! But I won’t complain ~ I appreciate every mission field God presents to me. I pray you two are having a good beginning to your year!
