Perspectives: Gospel of the Kingdom

Our God is offering to us the “Gospel,” the good news of the invitation to participate in His Kingdom.  This is both a now and forever opportunity, for the kingdom offered is for this life and for eternity.

What is this good news invitation?

Come, all you who are weary and carrying heavy burdens. Come, all you who thirst for holiness and hunger for the eternal meaning.

Come, all you who desire to walk in the light of ultimate reality and objective truth. Come, all you who would walk in integrity of being, true love, and righteous power.

Come, all who would live in deep union and communion with their God.

This life is available to all who give up control of all aspects of their being. To those who yield all the ins and outs of their daily living. This is an absolute surrender to the one true God that He describes as losing one’s own life to gain His life in its place.

In exchange for this total abdication of self-will, self-enlightenment, self-assertion and self-protection, one will gain the very life of the living God indwelling them. His life will be the source and force of spiritual vitality in them daily.

The one so yielded to our God will begin to experience of the mind, wisdom, strength, love, encouragement and purity of the very God Himself within. The Eternal Ultimate of holiness, truth, reality, and power will be present and available within oneself by this indwelling divine life.

This life is a full-time indwelling, not a part-time engagement. It is a total abandonment of self, not a dedication of a few hours each week.

This life is one of full and unfettered obedience, not the giving up of only some of our time and part of our resources. This life is intended to make Christ Jesus our magnificent obsession, not one focus among many.

It is available only on our God’s terms and is not subject to our terms or to negotiation. The words of Jesus and His apostles make it clear that the demands of this life are total and absolute.

Likewise, it is not a divine visitation or a human-divine partnership. Rather, it is a total and invasive habitation of one’s life by the Divine Life. No more divided heart living. No more part-time obedience or optional obedience.

Over time, that habitation will transform every aspect of one’s living seven days a week, every week of the year. The life of Christ in the disciple is to become the defining feature of that disciple.

When that happens one’s living finally fulfills the responsibilities we read in the scriptures. The promises of our God regarding the work of the Holy Spirit, the fullness of life, the joy and peace of the Lord, and fruitful life of love and obedience become reality.

And that life endures into eternity. Now that’s good news!
