We are “les enfants de l’eternitie,” the “children of eternity.” We are the children of a God Who inhabits eternity. Time means nothing to our God. Time is nothing in its speeding, and nothing in its halting. As children of eternity, we can rest in His leisure no matter how short our time might be. Blessed are those who wait upon the Lord.
“But do not ignore this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like one day. The Lord is not slow about his promise, as some think of slowness, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish but all to come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:8-9
Waiting upon our God is an oft-repeated instructions in the scriptures, for we tend toward selfish impatience. Waiting upon our God can mean literally waiting for His working, His answer, His provision. Our faith in our God can be measured by our patience in waiting for His response. When we are impatient, we act like children of small faith – selfish, anxious, impetuous. We show clearly that we are not yet children of eternity, but are functionally children of limited time.
Few things will help us appropriate the faith of Christ into our lives as well as be the visible measure of it as will our waiting patiently for our Lord’s actions and answers without fretting, stewing, worrying, complaining, and doubting.
“Wait for the Lord and keep to his way, and he will exalt you to inherit the land; you will look on the destruction of the wicked.” – Psalm 37:34
“It will be said on that day, “See, this is our God; we have waited for him, so that he might save us. This is the Lord for whom we have waited; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation.” – Isaiah 25:9
“It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.” – Lamentations 3:26

“Our faith in our God can be measured by our patience in waiting for His response.” Such truth, Tim!
Children of eternity! Yet, I act childish at times when I’m waiting on God’s divine direction.
His timing is for Our good (I feel like I’m being scolded by my parent, but it’s true!) and HIS glory,.
Thank you for this “timely” article, Christ friend. Jesus, help us all to be patient in the waiting and surrender to your will ~ to truly embrace the Christ life in letting go of “steering” the ship so HIS will be done in our lives.
God bless you and Rascal! PS~ the header image is stunning! Beautiful area!

Thank you for stopping by and commenting, Karla.
Yes, I felt a bit of the scolding when I was considering the topic and again when writing it. Our God speaks in every setting.
That picture at the top was a June hike into the Selkirks with Jackson the amazing beast. The calm day, partially frozen lakes, and the still heavy snow made for uncommon beauty.
Thanks again! All of our God’s best to you two!
